CAEvolunteering – Volunteer of the year Awards

1. How do I know if I should apply for the Volunteer of the year Award?

If you made a difference in your community with your outstanding volunteer work, then you should definitely apply.

2. Is there a minimum number of hours that I need to volunteer to be eligible?

No, there is no minimum number of hours required to be eligible for this program. Each application will be evaluated on the positive impact that the volunteer’s work has made on his or her community.

3. What are the prizes for this award?

There are 3 recipients for this award. CAE will donate to the recipient’s organization:

• Gold - CA$10,000
• Silver – CA$5,000
• Bronze – CA$2,000
4. If I win the Gold, Silver or Bronze award, who gets the money?

The money is given directly by CAE to the non-profit organization supported by the recipient.

5. If I win and want to divide the money between the different causes I volunteer in, is that possible?

Yes. If the application mentions more than one cause, the employee will be able to choose the amount he wishes to give to each organization.

6. Two years ago, when I was a student, I volunteered in Costa Rica with my school. Can I apply?

No. Volunteer hours must have been completed between January 1 and December 31 of the previous year.

7. As a full-time student, am I be eligible for the Volunteer of the year Award?

Unfortunately, only CAE’s permanent employees and CAE joint venture employees who work full- or part-time are eligible.

8. I personally don’t do any volunteer activities, but my spouse is very involved. Are members of my family

Only CAE’s permanent employees and CAE joint venture employee who work full- or part-time are eligible for this program.

9. I know a colleague who is involved in his/her community. Can I apply for him/her?

Yes, you can complete the application form for your colleague. But you’ll need to get some letters of support from the non-profit organizations, so it’s better if you complete it with him or her.

10. I volunteer for many causes. Do I have to select only one cause or can I put in all of them?

If you volunteer in more than one organization, you are more than welcome to tell us about each one! But you’ll need to send us a letter of support from each organization when submitting the application.

11. I’m a soccer coach. Can I apply for the award?

If the soccer club in which you volunteer is a non-profit organization, then yes, you can apply.

12. I volunteer in a family business. Am I eligible?

If your family business is a non-profit organization, you are eligible to submit your application.

13. As a volunteer, I sometimes receive some help (or money) for my personal projects from this organization as a token of appreciation for my volunteer work. Does that qualify me?

No, the definition of volunteering is a person who works for an organization without being paid. Therefore, if you receive something in exchange for your volunteer work, you are not eligible.

14. When is the deadline to complete the application form?

Deadline for submissions is March 8, 2023.

15. When will the winners be announced?

Award recipients will be announced by the end of May.

16. Who will review the application forms?

Each application will be reviewed by some members of CAE’s Corporate Social Responsibility Committee, chaired by Hélène V. Gagnon, Chief Sustainability Officer and Senior Vice President, Stakeholder Engagement.

17. Do I really need to attach some letters of support to my application?

At least one letter of support is mandatory. If you do not attach this letter, the committee will not review your application. If you volunteer in more than one organization, you will need to submit one letter per organization.

18. What is a non-profit organization?

A non-profit organization is a group organized for the purpose of social, charitable, educational or other such activities. The people involved in the “Not-For-Profit” organization cannot use it to make personal financial gain.

19. Are there any causes that are excluded?

Organizations, causes and projects that are not eligible include political, religious, fraternal and sectarian groups.

20. In my country, the organization for which I volunteer isn’t registered. Can I still apply?

Yes, you can still apply. In the application form, we ask for the address of the organization, the name of the contact person with their phone number and email address. Therefore, we will be able to validate the information.
Some research will be done to ensure that the organization respects the criteria of a non-profit organization.

21. Why do I need to provide the banking information for the organization?

For compliance reasons, we have to ensure that the money goes directly to the organization and not to an individual.

22. What are the possible methods of payment?

There are two possible methods of payment:

• Void cheque from the organization
• Banking information on the official letterhead from the organization

If none of those two options can be provided, the application will not be accepted.

23. Can CAE make an electronic fund transfer to my organization?

If the organization provides banking information on its official letterhead, we will make an electronic fund transfer.

24. How will the payment be made?

Depending on the method that was provided, CAE will make the donation by:

• Electronic fund transfer from the Void cheque
• Banking information on official letterhead (deposited directly in the organization bank account)
25. Can I make the donation personally and submit a Concur claim afterwards?

Unfortunately, for compliance and ethical reasons this is not an acceptable option.
CAE must make a donation to an organization and not to an employee.

26. Will the award be given annually or is this a one-time contest?

This award will be given annually.

27. Can I apply every year for the Volunteer of the year Award?

You can apply every year, but recipients cannot receive the award two years in a row.

28. I win, will my name appear on social media?

If you are a recipient, you and your organization will have exposure internally in our newsletters and externally in our Corporate Social Responsibility report and on our social media.
